Vision and Ethos of the Governing Body
The Governing Body is committed to:
- The school vision “ASPIRE and Achieve” and the mission statement setting out the school’s values and aspirations.
- Maintaining the culture of high expectations, aspirations and scholastic excellence in which the highest achievement in academic and vocational work is recognised as vitally important.
- Promoting all forms of equality and fostering greater understanding of and respect for people of all faiths (and those of no faith), races, genders, ages, disability and sexual orientations (and other groups with protected characteristics).
- Communicating the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school and culture of ambition.
- Raising awareness and keeping pupils safe from the dangers of abuse, sexual exploitation, radicalisation and extremism.
- Preparing pupils positively for life and promoting the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different beliefs.
- Engaging with parents, carers and other stakeholders and agencies to support all pupils.
The Seven Principles of Public Life
(Nolan Committee Principles)
Governors are committed to complying fully with the seven principles of public life, which are:
- Selflessness - Acting solely in terms of the public interest.
- Integrity - Avoiding any obligation to people or organisations that might try inappropriately try to influence the work of the Governing Body. Decisions are not taken in order to gain financial or other material benefits for governors, their families, or their friends. Governors declare interests and relationships and governors do not participate in any discussions in which they may directly or indirectly benefit from a pecuniary or personal interest.
- Objectivity - Acting and taking decisions impartially, fairly and on merit, using the best evidence and without discrimination or bias.
- Accountability – The Governing Body is accountable to the stakeholders for their decisions and actions and submit themselves to the scrutiny necessary to ensure this.
- Openness - Acting and taking decisions in an open and transparent manner.
- Honesty - Being truthful.
- Leadership - Exhibiting these principles in our behaviour. Actively promoting and robustly supporting the principles and be willing to challenge poor behaviour wherever it occurs.
