As an inclusive school, we aim to promote an ethos that recognises and celebrates the uniqueness and individual liberty of all children.  We firmly believe that every child, irrelevant of need - be it academic, social or emotional, has the right to achieve to the best of their ability.

 

In line with the SEN Code of Practice 2014, our staff and Governors are committed to ensuring that we do our best to provide the necessary provisions for pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.  Children at our school with SEND are integrated with their peers throughout all aspects of school life.

 

At Ashover Primary School we use a range of diagnostic and assessment strategies, alongside professional experience and judgement, to ensure that there is early identification of children experiencing difficulties. We work in partnership with the child, parents and outside agencies to ensure the best possible provision.

  

The amount and type of support children receive within school is tailored to their individual needs.  All lessons across the school are differentiated, using a range of teaching styles, resources and support, to ensure that the individual needs of all children are met.

 

If your child’s teacher or the SENCo feels that a child needs specific additional support this will be documented on an Individual Education Plan (IEP). An IEP will identify and set out short term targets for the child and how they will be achieved.

 

Some pupils with more complex needs may have an Educational Statement of Need or Educational Health Care PlanThese pupils will receive a combination of 1-2-1 teaching assistant support and a range of other provisions as outlined in their personal plan. These plans are currently reviewed annually with parents, pupils and outside agencies; all contributing to the review and future plans. Once children are on an EHC plan, reviews will be three times a year.

 

We actively request and receive support and advice from outside agencies including: Educational Psychology Service, Behavioural Support Services, Speech and Language Services, SSSEN Teachers, Physical, Visual and Hearing Support Services, Autism Outreach, CAMHS, the School Nurse and Occupational Therapy.

 

Children’s progress across the school is monitored termly by the Headteacher and SENCo  to ensure that the provision for all children is appropriate and they are progressing and developing as learners to the best of their ability.

 

The well-being of all children is our priority and the school has many resources and systems in place to support children with emotional and social needs including Art Therapy and Counselling.  Furthermore, we have Positive Play programmes very well established within our school.
